"A conspicuous rift develops": Kiosk in Ami colony shuts down - ticketing and parcel services eliminated

Hitting Hard in Obergiesing-Fasangarten: The Closing Kiosk Saga

By Katrin Hildebrand

Brace yourselves, residents of the Ami settlement. The kiosk at Fasangarten station is about to shutter its doors, leaving a considerable void in your daily lives.

Elderly residents like Alois Schwarzhuber face the most impact. As the kiosk at Auguste-Kent-Platz will close at the end of the month, there goes a beloved meeting spot and a handy outlet for magazines, tobacco, and train tickets, particularly for those who shun smartphones. Moreover, it served as a parcel pickup point for many neighbors. "That's a big loss," laments the long-time Ami settler.

Schwarzhuber, the chair of the "Interest Community Housing Estate at Perlacher Forest and Tegernsee Road" association, reports that the store also helped tie the community together. Recently, it even acted as a parcel drop-off point for two delivery services. Unfortunately, only one remains; a disheartening reminder of the kiosk's dwindling relevance.

Fasangarten's Loss: Not the First and May Not Be the Last

This isn't the first time that a crucial facility in Fasangarten succumbs to changes. Around four years ago, the "Trafik" on Minnewitstraße met its demise due to an exorbitant rent hike. Along with the post office and post bank, it vanished—leaving an empty void that hasn't been filled yet. Schwarzhuber hopes for a new tenant with a similar array of services. However, the "Trafik" was never replaced, now it's home to a nail salon.

Though business spaces abound in the area, Schwarzhuber laments that a full replacement for the previous store remains elusive. When queried for reasons behind the closure, the kiosk team remained silent. Upon inquiry, no response has been received yet from the property management concerning any prospect of a comparable replacement.
