The Wuppertal Africa Film Festival is set to present a diverse range of documentaries and feature films, focusing on the process of (de)colonization of Africa, from September 21st to 27th. This year's event, held in cooperation with the Cologne Africa Film Festival, will take place in the vibrant and culturally rich district of Oberbarmen, known for its concentration of opportunities and challenges of immigration society.

The festival will kick off with the screening of "Fanon" on the opening weekend, followed by a panel discussion. The film, directed by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, explores the relevance of Frantz Fanon's ideas today. The panel discussion, moderated by Cheikh Djibril Kane, will feature Muyisa Nkozi Muhindo, Armin Dinn, and Dirk Jädke.

Throughout the festival, nine thought-provoking films will be screened, ranging from political documentaries to an African Shakespeare adaptation. One of the highlights of the festival will be the cinematic homage to the master of Afro-Cuban music, Laba Sosseh, on September 27th.

The African diaspora is well-represented in Oberbarmen, yet often underrepresented in cultural and political debates. The festival aims to address this gap by presenting contemporary African filmmaking and fostering discussions on relevant topics.

Admission to all festival events is free, making it accessible to a wide audience. The festival is funded by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building, the Ministry for Home Affairs, Municipalities, Building and Equality of the State of NRW, and the city of Wuppertal.

Whether you're a film enthusiast, a student of history, or simply curious about African culture, the Wuppertal Africa Film Festival offers a unique opportunity to engage with thought-provoking films and stimulating discussions. Don't miss out on this vibrant celebration of African cinema and culture.
