AOK Building Demolished: Lebensader Lux Project Moves Ahead
The former AOK building in Hürth has been demolished, marking a key step in the Lebensader Lux urban development project. The materials recovered will be repurposed for research and teaching in the European Target-X project, set on a 4,000 square meter site in Aachen.
Before demolition, potentially hazardous materials were identified and safely disposed of. Now, the site will make way for a modern building and a new plaza featuring a water feature, green spaces, and high-quality amenities.
Selected materials from the former AOK building, such as metal panels, handrails, floor grates, bricks, windows, and benches, will be reused for innovative research and teaching methods in the Target-X project. This initiative is based on a resolution passed by the Planning Committee in December 2023, which aimed to inventory reusable building products before large-scale demolitions.
The demolition of the former AOK building is a significant milestone in the Lebensader Lux project. The repurposing of its materials for research and teaching in the Target-X project demonstrates the city's commitment to sustainability and innovation.
