Pedestrian Power: Frankfurt Takes Big Steps in Sustainable Mobility Revolution 🚀

Frankfurt's City Parliament Approves Mobility Blueprint Plan - Approval for European Mobility Master Plan Secured by Parliamentary Vote

Frankfurt's city council has made a splash with their recent decision! They've given the green light to the game-changing "Mobility Master Plan", with a majority vote. This forward-thinking strategy prioritizes people, the planet, and progress, setting ambitious goals for sustainable mobility, smart traffic systems, exceptional logistics, health protection, and traffic safety. 🚗🚲🚶‍♂️🚋

The Lowdown on the Mobility Manifesto:

  1. People First: The city's traffic department emphasizes that everyone's needs matter! Besides cars, priority will be given to pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation.
  2. Eco-friendly, Economic, Social: When it comes to this masterpiece, the ecological, economic, and social aspects are never far from sight.
  3. On a Roll: The ultimate goal? By 2035, these three groups will cover 80 percent of the routes in passenger transport!

Strap on your helmets and lace up those walking shoes, because the sustainable mobility revolution is in motion! Already in action, or on the horizon, we've got expanding cycling and public transit infrastructure, car-free zones, increased parking fees, a dedicated Pedestrian Coordinator, city-friendly delivery concepts, and the expansion of car-sharing services. 🚖🚌🚲👠

Not everyone's on board! criticism from the business community has surfaced, as they worry about driving customers, suppliers, and employees away with what they call a "one-sided anti-car policy." 🚫🚗

This new master plan officially replaces the overall traffic plan from 2005. In March of this year, the Römer coalition (Greens, SPD, FDP, and Volt) approved the concept after grueling negotiations. The missing piece of the puzzle? The plan had already been unveiled in 2023. Did you know? Frankfurt was one of the first German cities to publish a comprehensive traffic strategy like this! 🇩🇪💪inal
