Wiesbaden Launches Swimming Project for Refugee Children

Wiesbaden, Germany - The Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. and Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V. have joined forces to launch a swimming project aimed at providing essential life skills, self-confidence, participation, and joy to refugee children. The project, which commences on Monday, August 25, at the ESWE leisure pool, targets children aged 10 to 15.

Dr. Patricia Becher, Social Affairs Commissioner for the State Capital Wiesbaden, expressed her gratitude towards all involved for their exceptional commitment. She noted that the collaboration between civil society, administration, and club sports in Wiesbaden is purposeful, unbureaucratic, and goal-oriented.

Christoph Eichler, President of Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V., emphasized the club's commitment to integrating refugees through sport. He stated that learning to swim means not only safety but also participation, and Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. wants to enable children, regardless of their origin or financial situation.

The project is funded by Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. for ten children. Qualified trainers from Wiesbaden Swimming Club will conduct the swimming lessons. The city's social and administrative services will ensure the participation of the target group.

For Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., social commitment is not an obligation, but a conviction. The initiative is close to the hearts of the club members, as stated by Christoph Eichler. The Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden issued this press release, which can be contacted for any questions. The location for citizens' questions regarding the project is the Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden, Schlossplatz 6, 65183 Wiesbaden.

In a symbolic handover, Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. and Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V. have already conducted a handover for a project aimed at teaching refugee children and young people to swim. The club has also provided a new sporting home for a group of refugee Ukrainian elite swimmers.

The project is important for children and young people who often arrive under challenging circumstances. A further swimming course for children aged 5 to 8 will start from Saturday, August 30, at the Kleinfeldchen.

The Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. is committed to education, integration, and equal opportunities. The forum's dedication to this project underscores its belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn essential life skills and enjoy the joy of swimming.

  1. Engaging in outdoor-living activities such as swimming can provide a fun and enriching lifestyle for refugee children, promoting self-confidence and participation.
  2. Home-and-garden projects may not be the immediate priority for the Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., but their commitment extends beyond traditional boundaries, focusing on education, integration, and equal opportunities for children, including swimming lessons for refugee children.
