Armenian Street Festival set for August at Bucharest's Botanical Garden
Get ready for an unforgettable cultural extravaganza as the Armenian Street Festival 2025 prepares to take Bucharest by storm! From the 1st to the 3rd of August, 2025, the "Dimitrie Brândză" Botanical Garden will be transformed into an open space for the celebration of Armenian culture.
The festival aims to bridge the gap between Armenian traditions and contemporary city energies, promising a polyphonic structure that blends concerts, craftsmanship, memory, improvisation, and ritual with artistic experiment.
One of the headline acts is The Bambir, a national rock legend from Armenia whose music is a unique synthesis of progressive rock, Armenian ethno, jazz, and poetry. The Bambir, founded by Jag Barseghyan in the 1970s and now led by his son Narek and his bandmates, promises to unite past and present with voices that range from legendary brass bands to urban poetry musicians.
Another act hailing from Armenia is Gata Band, a group of musicians trained at the Yerevan Conservatory. Gata Band focuses on ethnic jazz reinterpreted and uses traditional Armenian instruments like duduk, kanon, dap, and dhol, contorting them into sophisticated harmonic structures inspired by modal and progressive jazz. Gata Band has been involved in UNESCO-curated projects and has performed in various countries, including France, Germany, Lebanon, and Georgia.
The artistic program also includes major international names from Armenia, the Republic of Moldova, and Romania. Performing artists and bands include Moldova's Zdob și Zdub, the Osoianu Sisters, Romania's Ciocârlia Fanfare, Robin and the Backstabbers, and Corina Sîrghi & Taraf.
The festival is not just about music. It also features exhibitions, workshops, gastronomy, and intergenerational dialogues, providing a diverse range of experiences for festival-goers.
The organizers of the Armenian Street Festival aim to strengthen the Bucharest-Chișinău-Yerevan cultural axis, creating an open space where Armenian traditions meet contemporary city energies.
