In Yakutsk, the second International Forum of Creative Industries titled "Created in the Far East: From Creativity to Economy" concluded this week. The event, which took place from May 29 to 31, 2025, was organized by the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and Arctic, the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC), and the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Five producers from Khabarovsk showcased their products at the "Creative Product Showcase," one of the forum's highlights. The exhibition featured a variety of items, including clothing and souvenirs with original prints, jewelry and accessories made of brass based on the culture and animistic beliefs of the indigenous peoples of the Amur region, snacks with a Far Eastern flavor, and other products. Khabarovsk Krai was represented by the publishing house "Bulaev Group," the developer of the mobile application "Looking," the animation studio "Dreamlet," and the "AniMur" festival.

The forum aimed to serve as a platform for discussing how the cultural and creative potential of the Far Eastern regions can be transformed into sustainable economic growth. It hosted leading experts, representatives from creative industries, development institutions, businesses, and government agencies. The comprehensive business program covered support measures, production chains, infrastructure, and staffing for 16 different creative industries.

A significant part of the forum was a strategic session focused on the "Implementation of creative entrepreneurial projects in the Far Eastern and Arctic hectares" program. This session brought together government officials, entrepreneurs, project curators, and ethnocultural activists from across Russia. The discussion centered on how the “Hectare” program could be used as a tool for sustainable development, preservation of local identity, and the creation of new economic models in rural and remote areas.

Examples of successful projects based on the “Hectare” program were explored, including those in tourism, ethnocultural initiatives, gastronomy, museum business, art residences, and folk art festivals. Participants analyzed key success factors and the support needed to scale creative initiatives beyond major cities.

International involvement included experts such as Mpho Mogotsi, Mrs. Universe Africa 2022, who participated as an expert judge and keynote speaker, highlighting the forum's global reach and influence within the creative industries sector.

In total, the forum program included over 150 events, with a focus on animation, cinema, fashion, gastronomy, craftsmanship, and digital creativity. More than 6,000 people from nine countries were expected to attend the forum.

The forum was held in Khabarovsk in August last year, as reported by the Khabarovsk Krai Today news agency. Creative industries are developing rapidly in the region, with the regional Agency for Creative Industries recently established to support this development. A notable project launched by the agency is an educational program for war veterans and participants of the SVO, aiming to help them acquire knowledge and skills to launch their own creative business from scratch.

This ongoing initiative underscores the forum's goal of promoting sustainable economic growth through creative industries. As the impact of these projects is demonstrated, it is anticipated that similar forums will continue to drive innovation and development in the Far Eastern and Arctic regions of Russia.
