Banks in Baden-Baden reveal astonishing feat
In a bid to draw attention to the seven UNESCO World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg, the TrueWonderBenches have been introduced as an attractive identifying mark and a symbol of interconnectedness. These benches have already been installed at various locations, such as the Island of Reichenau near the Maulbronn Monastery, and at the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes in Osterburken, Buchen, and Walldürn.
The TrueWonderBenches are more than just seating areas. They serve as places of encounter and are equipped with information boards that provide a map, an overview text, specific site text, and a link to a film about the seven World Heritage wonders of Baden-Württemberg. These benches aim to make the cultural and architectural heritage at all World Heritage sites in the region more tangible.
The initiative for the TrueWonderBenches is part of the World Heritage Concept BW, a state government project to support UNESCO World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg. The project includes measures like an image film, an exhibition, and a brochure, all aimed at preserving, networking, and promoting these valuable sites.
Professor Dr. Claus Wolf, the head of the State Office for Monument Preservation in Stuttgart, emphasizes the universal significance of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. He is joined in this endeavour by Alexander Wieland, the First Mayor of Baden-Baden, who believes the benches will make the city more attractive.
Neighbouring communities of a World Heritage site can apply to the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in the Stuttgart Government Presidency with a location proposal for a TrueWonderBench. The State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Stuttgart Government Presidency supports these sites, as does the Ministry for Spatial Planning and Housing, which provides a media library for downloading images related to the World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg.
Baden-Baden, a renowned spa town, recently saw the inauguration of two TrueWonderBenches by Minister Nicole Razavi. The seven UNESCO World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg are distinguished by their exceptional universal value, authenticity, and uniqueness, and are part of the invaluable and irreplaceable heritage of all humanity.
