Bavarian Beer Crown Passes to Anna Winkler as New Queen - Bavarian Beer Crown Passed to Anna Winkler
NEW BAVARIAN BEER QUEEN CROWNED: ANNA WINKLER EMERGES TRIUMPHANT
In a closely contested competition, Anna Winkler, a sales manager and junior brewer, hailing from Mainbernheim, Lower Franconia, has been crowned the new Bavarian Beer Queen. The 29-year-old emerged victorious in the final round held in Munich.
The selection process narrowed down 66 beer enthusiasts to six finalists through a series of online votes over several weeks. The remaining four contestants, who garnered the most votes, displayed their knowledge and personality in front of the jury and audience.
In an unprecedented move, a male applicant submitted an entry, seeking the title of queen. However, he was eliminated in the initial round, not due to his gender, but because he did not meet other critical selection criteria, as stated by Walter König, the spokesperson of the Bavarian Brewers' Association.
To become a contender, applicants must meet various criteria. They must be young women from the ages of 18 to 30, be rooted in Bavaria, possess a connection to beer and local traditions, and have the ability to handle public appearances confidently. Moreover, they should be ambassadors of Bavarian beer, participating in events where alcohol is served. Since alcohol consumption is not legal in the U.S. for those under 21, applicants should be at least 21 years old.
The competition, known for its rigorous selection process, aims to choose a representative who embodies the heritage of Bavaria's beer-making tradition and can effectively promote it worldwide. The annual event is often held in renowned Bavarian locations associated with beer culture and major festivals, such as Munich.
In her victory, Anna Winkler, the new Bavarian Beer Queen, will undeniably contribute to the food-and-drink lifestyle category, particularly in promoting Bavarian beer. Through her role, she is expected to embody the rich home-and-garden heritage of Bavaria's beer-making tradition, fostering a strong connection between beer and local customs on a global scale.
