Becoming a Safe Haven like The Ned: Could your property follow suit?

The City of London's Our Safer City initiative has received a boost with the addition of The Ned to its Safe Haven scheme. This landmark hotel and members' club, located next to Bank Junction in the former Midland Bank headquarters, offers ten restaurants and bars, 250 hotel bedrooms, and a private members' club.

The Safe Haven scheme, which aims to make the City of London a safer and more welcoming place for everyone, provides support to vulnerable individuals in various participating premises. Don Randall MBE, Chairman of the City of London Crime Prevention Association and the Our Safer City initiative, welcomed The Ned's participation, praising its commitment to the safety and well-being of the public.

Registration for the Safe Haven app and premises registration is free and can be done by visiting oursafercity.co.uk or emailing [email protected]. Participating venues, which range from cafes and shops to offices and community venues, are listed on the app for easy access. The app can be downloaded from Google Play for Android devices and the App Store for Apple devices.

Paul Gorry, Head of Security at The Ned, engaged with Lily Prior and Eren Bessim from Safer Business Network for internal training and went through the application process to become a Safe Haven. Gorry sees the Safe Haven scheme as important on both a professional and personal level, as he is a husband, brother, and father with many important women in his life. He expressed concern over high-profile incidents involving crimes against women in public spaces and believes that The Ned has a social responsibility to prevent such crimes.

The Safe Haven initiative offers training to staff of participating venues, equipping them to provide reassurance and basic assistance. Participating in the Safe Haven scheme is simple, though further details about the specific steps The Ned has taken were not provided in the article. The Safe Haven scheme offers a safe and welcoming space where someone can pause, ask for help, or even recharge their phone.

The goal of The Ned joining the Safe Haven Network in the City of London is to contribute actively to ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals in public spaces. Don Randall encouraged other premises in the City of London to join the Safe Haven scheme, as it is quick and simple, with brief training provided for staff. This move by The Ned is a significant step towards creating a safer and more inclusive City of London for all.
