Hey there!
Who wouldn't wanna hang out with the fastest bird in the world, the Peregrine Falcon, or sing along with the red-tailed Redstart? Berlin's birdlife is a buzzin', and you can be a part of it! The Nature Conservation Union Germany (NABU) and the Bavarian Nature Conservation Association LBV are back for another year of keepin' tabs on our fine feathered friends - and they wanna know if you're up for it!
From May 9th to May 11th, it's all about the "Hour of Garden Birds" - the perfect opportunity to don your birdwatching cap and join in. In the heart of the city, you might spot goldfinches - red-faced, yellow-winged charmers also known as thistle finches - or even the redstart, with its waggly red tail and melodic tunes. But don't forget about city staples like sparrows and pigeons!
Last year, a whopping 36,000 birds were counted in Berlin!
Here's the rundown: If you wanna get in on the fun, find a quiet spot in your garden, park, or even from a window and take an hour to count the highest number of each bird species you've got your eyes on. And remember, your contributions can help reveal insights into the ever-changing bird world that can boost official population trends!
So, how do ya play? Simple - just submit your results via the internet, an app, or an old-school snail mail! Last year, over 1,980 Berliners participated!
