Rockin' the Ages: Brandenburg and Berlin Celebrate Mill Anniversaries

Mill Owners Commemorate Decade-Long Anniversary - Brandenburg mills are commemorating their milestone year.

Get ready to step back in time as we celebrate Germany's rich history during the Mill Days festivities! This year's Pentecost Monday, our beloved Bechlin Mill in Neuruppin (Ostprignitz-Ruppin district) will turn a spry 100, and the Scheunenwindmill in Saalow, part of the Am Mellensee community (Teltow-Fläming district), reaches the ripe age of 30—talk about grand ol' mill vibes! More than 59 milling marvels across Brandenburg and Berlin are participating in this annual extravaganza, brought to you by the Mill Association Berlin-Brandenburg and the Brandenburg Ministry of Culture.

Looking for a magical mix of history, tech, and fun? You've come to the right place! Wander through the halls of water, wind, and motor mills—just don't trip over those old cogs! Guided tours and festivities for all ages will make this event as unforgettable as a three-tiered wedding cake.

Got kids? No problem! Hop on over to the Wilhelmsaue post mill in the Oderbruch region and let them craft their very own mini Tetra Pak windmill. Plus, don't miss out on the other post mills scattered throughout Berlin and the German Museum of Technology, all ready for your little explorers to conquer.

Across Germany, over 600 historic mills will fling their doors wide open for Pentecost Monday visitors, setting the stage for a cross-country celebration. The festive opening ceremony will take place at the Upper Mill and the post mill in Bad Düben (Nordsachsen district).

Our very own Culture Minister Manja Schüle (SPD) has stepped up as the 32nd German Mill Day patron. According to Schüle, these architectural wonders aren't just masterpieces of engineering—they've served as muses for poets, artists, and musicians for centuries. "Together, their timeless beauty stands as a testament to our shared heritage and a symbol of harmony and unity," she says.

So put on your party hats and Join the mill-ivolution! It's time to embark on a nostalgic journey through Brandenburg and Berlin's historical heartlands.

The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment in the Community, ensuring lush gardens and eco-friendly homes remain integral parts of our sustainable lifestyle during festive celebrations like Mill Day. As we immerse ourselves in the historic ambiance of milling marvels across Brandenburg and Berlin, let's remember these architectural wonders are not only symbols of technical innovation but also serve as sources of inspiration for artists and muses for poets, instilling a deep connection with Germany's cultural heritage.
