In the heart of Wersten, a community in Düsseldorf, the neighbourhood foundation "With Heart and Hand for Wersten" has been serving its residents since 2004. The foundation's mission is to look out for one another, providing help where it's needed.
The foundation, along with local churches and numerous Wersten residents, supports a food distribution centre located at Burscheider Straße 24. The centre operates on Tuesdays from 2:30 PM to 5 PM, catering specifically to Düsseldorf pass holders. Around 100 food packages are distributed weekly, a number that is currently on the rise due to the challenges posed by rising prices.
The demand for food packages is increasing as many individuals and families find themselves struggling to make ends meet. The foundation addresses this by networking volunteers and its board to identify the needs of those who might not ask for help themselves.
While coffee and tea are not typically part of the selection at the food distribution centre, on the occasion of the foundation's 20th anniversary, the board handed over 80 coffee and tea packages to the food distribution team.
