Central Station's Grand Hall in Dusseldorf Honors Holy Night Celebration

On the bustling afternoon of December 24th, Düsseldorf Central Station was a whirlwind of activity, with people rushing around, some with heavy suitcases, others with children, and a few with overweight dogs. Amidst the chaos, a unique and heartwarming moment unfolded.

The ecumenical Christmas service, led by Pastoral Assistant Lisa Brentano and Diakonie Pastor Michael Schmidt, took place in front of the 16 tracks, where the German Railways was working tirelessly. Despite the fast-paced atmosphere, the brass players from Oberbilk paused the relentless rhythm for those who wanted to.

The brass players of the Artillerie Fanfarencorps Düsseldorf Oberbilk played Christmas classics, filling the large entrance hall with the melodious sounds of the season. Some people, initially intending to rush through, chose to stop and join in the singing.

The service began with Pastoral Assistant Lisa Brentano speaking about the Christmas miracle, referencing the Gospel of Luke. She told the old story of two people finding no shelter in a foreign land and giving birth to a child in a stable. The child was born under unhygienic conditions and placed in a manger.

The transformation in the entrance hall lasted for approximately 30 minutes, creating a sense of togetherness among the approximately 100 listeners, singers, and thoughtful people who gathered. The station mission helpers were present, offering assistance to travelers and those in need.

Michael Schmidt took the opportunity to remind travelers to consider their belongings when traveling. He encouraged everyone to take a moment to appreciate the spirit of the season and the peace it brings.

The service concluded punctually at 12 noon, with the brass players playing a final Christmas classic. Some people tried to capture the moment on their phones, but it proved difficult, as the melody lingered in the air, a beautiful reminder of the peaceful moment that had just taken place at Düsseldorf Central Station.
