Cinema festival featuring Tatarstan films to take place in Yakutsk
At the Lena cinema in Yakutsk, you'll find Tatarstan Film Days happening on June 12 and 13. These events offer audiences a selection of films from Tatarstan directors, who've won accolades at Russian and international festivals, all for free! Organized by the film company "Sakhafilm," these screenings are part of the XXV Federal Sabantuy, as reported.
On June 12, at 5:00 PM, the Tatar film "Gashiyklar Tavy" (or possibly "The Feast of the Birds" in English) will be shown, with Russian subtitles. Directed by Salavat Yuzeyev, this road movie combines personal and social drama, based on the novel of the same name by Tatarstan's People's Poet, Ilidar Yuzeyev. It's a story of young lovers who make a promise of eternal love on a symbolic mountain, but events conspire to keep them apart for years. The film premiered at the international "Altyn Minbar" film festival, where Salavat Yuzeyev was honored as "Best Director of a Feature Film," and the film won "Best Screenplay in a Feature Film."
On June 13, at 4:00 PM, the Tatar film "Telsiz Küké," roughly meaning "Fairy (or Soul) without a Tongue" or "Voiceless Fairy/Soul," will be screened with Russian subtitles. Directed by Raouf Kubayev, this film is based on the play by Tatarstan's People's Writer Zulfat Hakim. It tells the story of love, betrayal, and brotherhood against the backdrop of the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940. The film has received the Special Prize of the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov "For Humanism in Cinema."
On the same day at 6:00 PM, the drama "I Pridu" (18+) will conclude the program. This Russian film tells the story of a 16-year-old boy who escapes from a colony to find his gravely ill grandmother. Colliding with an 8-year-old homeless boy along the way, their journey home becomes a test of friendship, honesty, and justice, while the colony's management attempts to cover up the escape and pursue the fugitive.
