City library introduces gaming option: board games available for borrowing

The Meerbusch City Library has expanded its collection with a new offering at the Büderich location, featuring board games for both young and old. This move, according to Bettina Schüren, the library's director, is in response to user requests and provides diverse opportunities for active cultural engagement.

Starting today, games can be borrowed for 14 days with a valid library card, with the option to extend the loan period. The games, currently located on a shelf on the ground floor at Dr.-Franz-Schütz-Platz, can be played on-site at the city library or taken home.

The library's existing collection of games for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles has been expanded with tactile games, making room for a variety of choices. The new collection includes classic, modern, and innovative crazy games suitable for various age groups and settings.

Lara Döberitz, responsible for the board game collection, stated that analog games offer a valuable opportunity for close human encounters and shared fun. Studies indicate that playing board games has positive effects on the development of children and young people, fostering team spirit, patience, problem-solving skills, and fairness.

Schüren emphasized that board games are a living cultural heritage, connecting generations, fostering social skills, and strengthening strategic thinking and communication skills. Even adults can benefit from playing board games, as they promote relaxation and strengthen the sense of community.

To celebrate the new offering, a game event will take place on Saturday, September 20, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This event invites everyone to discover the world of board games. No registration is required, and further information can be obtained by email or phone during library opening hours.

Reservations for games are possible, ensuring that your favourite games are waiting for you when you visit the library. For more information, or to make a reservation, contact the library team at [email protected] or 02132 - 916 448.

The city library has also included classic board games in its portfolio, alongside console games. So, whether you're a fan of Monopoly, Scrabble, or something more modern, there's something for everyone at the Meerbusch City Library.
