Commemoration Day Unveiled for Public Mourning
The German Foundation for Monument Protection is set to host the Day of Open Heritage on a date to be announced, an event that has been a significant cultural celebration in Germany since 1993. This year, the historic towns of Vilsbiburg and Haunzenbergersöll are set to open their doors, inviting visitors to delve into their rich past.
In Vilsbiburg, the excavation site, steeped in 800 years of the town's history, will be accessible to the public from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Guided tours will be offered at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, starting at the Kugelhalle, with registration required. Visitors can also enjoy free coffee and cake, courtesy of the local history association.
The estate in Vilsbiburg, once a residence and studio, has undergone extensive renovation work since 2024 and will be open to the public between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. However, individual access to the estate is not possible. The local history association will present the results of its research, especially on nutrition in medieval Vilsbiburg, during the Day of Open Heritage.
In Haunzenbergersöll, a protected Historic Center located in the Municipality of Bodenkirchen, visitors can join guided tours through the historic old town at around 13:00, 14:00, and 15:00. Registration for these tours can be made by emailing [email protected]. The city that hosts this protected historic center, Innsbruck, will celebrate the Open Monument Day as part of the event.
The Artist's House Ganslberg, located at Ganslberg 24, Altdorf, is also participating in the Day of Open Heritage, but further details about its participation are not provided.
Meanwhile, the Lower Heritage Protection Authority of the Landshut district will present an exhibition of various heritage protection projects in the area of the Vilsbiburg old town at the excavation site. The district of Landshut is rich in monuments and will open some of them to visitors on the event day.
The town of Vilsbiburg will present plans for the development of the Färberanger area during the Day of Open Heritage. Cars can be parked at Rottenburger Straße 24 in 84032 Altdorf, with a shuttle service offered for a fee and upon prior registration.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the estate via the LAVV line 1; stop "Alte Ziegelei". Please note that the estate will no longer be publicly accessible after the exhibition but will serve again as a studio house.
Lastly, the village festival will take place in the protected ensemble of Haunzenbergersöll, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the local history and gardening association.
The Day of Open Heritage promises to be an exciting opportunity to explore Germany's rich cultural heritage. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply curious, mark your calendars and join in the celebration!
