Communication Design students' photographic creations are exhibited at the art event
In an exciting display of creativity and skill, a group of Communication Design students are presenting their works at the "Image Making for Storytelling" exhibition. The project, designed to empower students and broaden their horizons, has seen masterpieces by renowned artists interpreted using diverse media.
The students, including Jihye Jang, Hannah Cooke, Jannik Lang, and Norina Quinte, spent a week immersed in the fundamentals of printmaking. This intensive learning period was followed by a series of progressive creative assignments that aimed to build their skills in craft and composition.
One of the key aspects of the project was the exploration of self, signs, and symbols. Students were encouraged to carve their drawings as mirror images, a unique challenge that pushed their creative boundaries. They also studied and practised carving and printing using sunboard, lino sheet, and MDF board.
The project went beyond traditional image making techniques. Paintings were recreated using unconventional materials like cloth, rope, paper, papier mâché, cardboard, and cellophane sheets, adding a fresh and innovative twist to the works.
The manipulation of negative and positive space was another focus of the project. Techniques applied clarified these aspects of an image, enabling students to innovate the visual experience and represent more complex narratives through their image making.
The "Image Making for Storytelling" project is not just about creating beautiful images; it's about teaching students how to use various image elements like space, form, and structure to communicate emotion effectively. By doing so, the project aims to equip students with the ability to communicate effectively through image making.
The exhibition, showcasing the culmination of these students' hard work and creativity, is a testament to the success of the project. It invites visitors to immerse themselves in a world of innovative image making and storytelling, and to witness the transformation of young artists into skilled communicators.
