In the heart of Giessen, the city police have initiated a new action to improve the bike parking facilities and overall traffic flow in several key areas. The focus of this action is on the train station plaza, the parking facilities around the train station, the area around the Newstead Gate, and Berlin Square, as well as various pedestrian zones.

The action aims to address the issue of abandoned and non-roadworthy bikes that have been frequently found on bike racks, throughout the train station area, and in the facilities at the parking garage on Lahn Street. These bikes often impede pedestrians and other traffic participants, making it difficult for cyclists to find suitable parking spaces.

The city of Giessen asks cyclists to pay attention to the corresponding signs and to only use the provided parking areas for parking their bikes. To retrieve a removed bike, proof of ownership is required. This can include a photo, bike passport, purchase receipt, frame number, or other similar documents.

Beginning from the 43rd calendar week (20.10.), the city of Giessen will start removing marked, non-roadworthy or abandoned bikes. The bikes will be stored for two months before disposal, allowing cyclists to retrieve their bikes within this period.

The storage location for removed bikes is the Stadtreinigung- und Fuhramt, Schlachthofstraße 40 in 35398 Giessen. To arrange for bike retrieval, cyclists are asked to contact the city police at 0641 306-1932.

It is important to note that the specific names of the police officers or personnel employed by the city of Giessen who mark and remove abandoned and unusable bicycles are not publicly available.

This action is part of the city of Giessen's ongoing efforts to maintain clean and efficient bike parking facilities and to ensure the safety and convenience of all traffic participants. By removing these abandoned bikes, the city hopes to improve the overall traffic flow in these areas and make it easier for cyclists to find suitable parking spaces.
