Decorate Halloween with Bat-themed Coffee Filters!
In the spirit of Halloween, we're sharing a fun and easy craft that's perfect for toddlers and kids - coffee filter bats! This project was inspired by a childhood memory of the author, who first saw a bat when they were nine years old in New Fairfield, Connecticut.
To create these adorable bats, you'll need a few simple materials. Head to your local dollar store to pick up coffee filters, clothespins, markers, and paint. You'll also need craft foam or felt in black for the bat's body parts, wax paper (optional) as a work surface, and a small spray bottle of water to make the markers bleed.
Begin by cutting the wings and bat ears from the coffee filters using scissors. Next, apply black acrylic paint on the clothespins using a paintbrush. Once dried, use washable markers in Halloween-ish colors such as black, blues, purples, and maybe a dark green for fun to create the bat's face on the clothespins.
To make the markers bleed, gently spritz them with water from the spray bottle. This will create a cool, marbled effect on your bats' faces. Let the markers dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Once dry, assemble the bats by gluing the coffee filters to the back of the clothespins with craft glue. Attach the bat's body parts made from black craft foam or felt, and add googly eyes for the finishing touch.
If you'd like to speed up the drying process, you can use a hair dryer on a low setting. And remember, you can use a work surface covered in wax paper to keep things tidy.
This craft is not only a fun Halloween activity but also a great way to remember and celebrate those small, memorable moments from our childhood. So gather your materials, and let's get crafting! Happy Halloween!
