In approximately mid-April, 59 fresh tree species, including a red maple, will be added to Cologne's urban landscape. Two dedicated gardening squads are actively involved in this city-wide greening project.

"Discovered: New Linden Species and Installed Red Horn Traffic Indicators in Koblenz City Streets"

beginning on mid-April, the city of Coblenz will see the planting of 59 new trees, as two gardening teams, commissioned by the municipal enterprise Green Spaces and Funeral Services, have commenced their work.

One noteworthy location for these new trees is the parking lot on the Karthause at the Simmerner Straße, which will soon be replanted with seven trees, comprising three serviceberries, one hornbeam, one red maple, and one multi-stemmed black walnut tree that already stands six meters tall. In the playground in southern Guls, three trees, including a future elm, red maple, and European white birch, will be planted, providing much-needed shade.

There has already been fruitful progress in the spring planting, with a ten-meter-tall red maple having been planted at the corner of Kardinal-Krementz-Straße and Waisenhausstraße. Later, perennials will be planted around this roughly twenty-year-old tree, making way for a planned bike path. Five new autumn-flaming maples and one columnar maple of the 'Rubicundus® Typ I' variety have also been planted along these streets.

Several neighborhoods are receiving winter linden trees as street-side greenery, including two each in Lindenstraße in Goldgrube and at Pfarrer-Friesenhahn-Platz in Neuendorf. The 'Buda' Mongolian linde, a new linden variety for Coblenz, will be tested for suitability in the city's climate on Hans-Bellinghausen-Straße in Neuendorf and on the Karthause. The same applies to the 'Sisi' Hungarian linden variety, which has been added to the street-side greenery at the Bubenheim Service Center.

In Südallee, another phase of the cherry blossom alley has been extended, while eighteen pink-blooming mountain cherries of the 'Charles Sargent' variety have been planted on Oberwerth's Eichendorffstraße as part of the new Pfaffendorfer Bridge construction.

As urban greening initiatives continue worldwide, the city of Coblenz contributes to this movement by extending and enhancing its street-side greenery.

In the upcoming weeks, a variety of trees will be planted in other locations across Coblenz, such as the Karthause at the Simmerner Straße where seven home-and-garden species are planned, encompassing serviceberries, hornbeam, red maple, and black walnut. Additionally, the playground in southern Guls will see the planting of an elm, red maple, and European white birch, contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle by providing much-needed shade.
