Düsseldorf's 'Your Tree' Initiative Offers Affordable Trees for Greener City
Düsseldorf's 'Your Tree' initiative, launched in 2021, is helping residents green their city with a variety of trees. The scheme offers fruit, bee-friendly, and climate-adaptive trees at an affordable price, with over 650 trees already finding homes in private gardens.
The current round, the fourth since the initiative's inception, provides trees for 35 euros each. Citizens have applied for 225 trees so far, with options including apple, pear, and 'Blue Kölner' varieties for fruit lovers. Bee-friendly species like chokecherry and plum, and climate-adaptive options such as amber and magnolia trees are also available. Interested parties can order trees via an email form sent to [email protected]. Pick-up is arranged individually on four Fridays in November at the municipal nursery against cash payment. While the search results do not specify which types are sold out, trees are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with one tree per person and property allowed due to high demand.
The 'Your Tree' initiative aims to promote climate adaptation and biological diversity by increasing tree plantings. With 125 fruit trees, 50 bee trees, and 50 climate trees available, Düsseldorf residents are encouraged to participate and help make their city greener.
