Enhanced Security Measures Implemented for Durga Puja Celebrations in Bengal
The vibrant Durga Puja celebrations in West Bengal are set to begin next week, with a focus on maintaining safety and security, especially in high-density areas and urban agglomerates.
According to Shamim, the state's Home Secretary, ensuring the safety of all visitors during the festivities is a top priority. The security plan, which will be implemented from Mahalaya (21st September), emphasizes managing footfall, traffic flow, and swift responses to any untoward incidents.
In Kolkata and other urban areas, the focus of the security plan remains on high-density zones. However, suburban zones like Ranaghat in Nadia will also be under close watch, given the large crowds expected during the celebrations. Notably, Ranaghat will host one of the state's largest Goddess Durga idols at Aabhijan Sangha.
The Kalyani ITI More Puja, known for drawing large crowds each year, is another area receiving special attention. The security plan extends beyond the Durga Puja celebrations, encompassing the post-Puja carnivals as well. These events are considered crucial due to the massive crowds they attract.
To ensure a smooth and secure celebration, 10,000 to 15,000 police personnel will be on the ground, with local police officials and district administration authorities overseeing law and order in their respective regions. Additionally, Home Guards, NCC cadets, and local youth volunteers will be mobilised for crowd management and logistical support.
The Durga Puja festivities are scheduled to commence on 27th September and conclude on 2nd October. The state government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for all. With a substantial police presence and meticulous planning, the focus remains on maintaining order and preventing any untoward incidents.
