Enthusiastic Murgflöser prepares for the Gernsbach Old Town Festival, bringing along camaraderie and age-old customs
In the picturesque town of Gernsbach, preparations are underway for an exciting event during the Old Town Festival. The Gernsbach Murgfloaters, a local community group, are readying their colossal float for a grand water launch.
The float, weighing approximately 36 tons and stretching around 36 meters, will be a sight to behold. The city of Gernsbach has generously provided support for this endeavour, offering both the wood and the water for the launch. Additionally, Mohr Autokran- und Gerätevermietung in Iffezheim has graciously offered a crane for the float's transportation.
The volunteer fire department of Gernsbach has been a long-standing supporter of the Murgfloaters, lending a helping hand wherever needed. This year, they will once again play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and successful launch of the float.
On Friday, September 19, the float will make its grand entrance into the town's beer garden, Gasthof Jockers, where Benjamin Döhrer, the author of the children's book to be presented, will host a captivating reading from his book 'Alemannenkinder'. The children in attendance will have the opportunity to engage creatively by cutting out figures from the book and sticking them onto small Styrofoam floats during the event.
The author, who resides in the Murg valley, promises an enchanting reading that will captivate the imaginations of the young audience. Following the reading, the float will be ready for its much-anticipated water launch, marking the beginning of the Old Town Festival celebrations.
On this special day, Gernsbach will come alive with the spirit of community, creativity, and celebration, as the Murgfloaters take to the water once more. Don't miss out on this unforgettable event!
