Exploring the woods of the Eifel region through a fun, interactive trail
In the charming town of Gerolstein, a new attraction has been unveiled, promising an educational and fun experience for families with kids. The adventure trail, funded by the Gerolstein municipal association and EU funding, was officially opened on Sunday and has already been tested by local resident Jeanette Burgard and her children before the grand unveiling.
The trail, a circular path approximately two kilometers long, boasts 16 stations designed to teach visitors about the fascinating world of the forest and the work of foresters. The goal is to provide an engaging and interactive learning experience, making the wonders of the forest accessible to all.
The highlight of the trail is the forest ball tracks, which show visitors the process of wood from the forest in a unique and interactive way. The obstacles on these tracks imitate saw blades or nails, offering a hands-on experience of the wood processing industry.
One of the most intriguing stations on the trail is the walk-in bat box, a two-meter high wooden box designed by Wolfgang Naak from the company arbor. This interactive exhibit allows kids to learn about the sleeping habits of bats in a safe and engaging manner.
The adventure trail also includes quiz boards for visitors to test their knowledge about the forest, making learning a fun and interactive experience. The Burgard family, who were among the first to experience the trail, found it to be both fun and educational.
The planning and construction of the adventure trail took a total of three years, with the idea coming from community interest groups, citizens, and local advisory councils. The Verbandsgemeinde Gerolstein will be responsible for maintaining the trail, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for visitors for years to come.
Tourism in Gerolstein and the surrounding area is expected to increase due to the adventure trail, attracting up to 10,000 visitors per year. The trail is an offer for tourists making a day trip or for those on holiday, promising a unique and memorable experience in the heart of the Vulkaneifel region.
Jeanette Burgard and her children are thrilled with the new adventure trail near Gerolstein, expressing their delight at the educational and fun experience it provides. The adventure trail is not just a walk in the woods; it's an immersive journey into the heart of the forest, where visitors can learn, play, and discover the wonders of nature.
