Forestry Frolics: Weekday Entertainment for Ages 8-11 - October Edition
Forest School sessions for home-educated children are set to resume at the picturesque Foxburrow Nature Reserve, located at Saddlemakers Lane, Woodbridge, IP12 1NA, UK. Organized by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, these sessions provide a unique opportunity for young learners to connect with nature and develop essential outdoor skills.
Two age-specific sessions will be available:
1. **Forest School for 8-11 Year Olds**
This session caters to children aged 8 to 11 years. The focus is on child-led learning and a deep connection with nature. Activities may include setting up ropes, hammocks, using tools, and cooking snacks over a fire (weather permitting). Children are advised to wear closed-toed shoes and long trousers for protection against stinging nettles and midges. Parents must book in advance, confirming emergency contact details and who will collect their child. Booking closes the day before the event.
2. **Forest School for 11-16 Year Olds**
Designed for older children aged 11 to 16 years, this session offers a similar outdoor exploration and hands-on activity experience based on the Forest School ethos. As with the younger group, children must wear closed-toed shoes and long trousers. Parents must book in advance, confirming emergency contact and pickup details upon drop-off. Booking also closes the day before the event.
Common to both sessions, participants should bring a packed lunch, drink, and appropriate weather gear, such as hats, scarves, sunscreen, and waterproofs. All sessions are for unaccompanied children.
It is essential to note that activities are conducted entirely outdoors, so children should dress appropriately for the weather. Wheelchair access is available, and children with specific mobility needs should contact the organisers before booking. Fires and tools are not permitted for use with bare legs and toes.
