Last Friday, the "Young. Innovative. Sustainable." project, led by the FSI Forum for Social Innovation gGmbH, celebrated its first anniversary with the signing of cooperation agreements. The ceremony took place at the Bürgerverein Rund um die Zietenstraße e.V., a local community group in Solingen, Germany.

The project, which aims to promote sustainability among youth and community facilities, has seen the participation of Merscheider Turnverein, Verein Rund um die Zietenstraße e.V., Fuhrgemeinschaft e.V., and three additional youth facilities and a sports club.

Max Gehrmann from FSI highlighted the importance of the project's sustainability goals, which are based on the United Nations' sustainability goals and Solingen's sustainability strategy. The Bürgerverein Zietenstraße has been at the forefront of these efforts, organising workshops featuring sustainability checklists and discussions about the personal connection to the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations.

The Merscheider Turnverein, a sports club, has already implemented ecological measures, such as photovoltaic systems on the roof of its sports hall. The club also aims to focus more on social inclusion and integrate diverse groups in society into its club sports.

The Fuhrgemeinschaft e.V., another participating organisation, has previously organised a Human Rights Coup for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the connection between football and human rights was explained in a playful way. Similar formats are planned for the other clubs in the project.

The first actions for the sustainable redesign of the neighbourhood are being planned by the Bürgerverein Zietenstraße. As the project moves forward, it is expected to involve community engagement, environmental projects, and educational activities aimed at promoting sustainable practices.

For more specific details about the project, it would be best to contact the involved organisations directly or check local community websites for project updates. Sustainability initiatives often involve community engagement, environmental projects, and educational activities aimed at promoting sustainable practices.

[2] Initiatives promoting sustainability may include upcycling workshops and educational programs to raise awareness about environmental conservation.

  1. The Young. Innovative. Sustainable. project, which has seen the participation of Merscheider Turnverein, Fuhrgemeinschaft e.V., and several youth facilities, has expanded its scope to include homesteading, as demonstrated by initiatives promoting sustainable living in home-and-garden settings.
  2. The Bürgerverein Zietenstraße, having organized workshops on the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations, is now planning the first actions for the sustainable redesign of the neighbourhood, including projects that aim to educate residents about the importance of a sustainable lifestyle for football enthusiasts.
  3. Similarly, the Merscheider Turnverein, following its lead in implementing ecological measures like photovoltaic systems on its sports hall, is aiming to expand its sustainability efforts to its sport-related activities, such as conducting workshops on sustainable sports equipment and promoting cleaner, greener football (or other sports) playing fields.
