Harburg's local artist, Ralf Schwinge, is making headlines again. The 35-year-old, known for his cityscape paintings and long hair, has been documenting Harburg's transformation for over a decade. Now, he's preparing for a charity art auction at the Harburg-Huus, where he'll showcase his unique perspective on everyday life in the city.
Schwinge, who prefers to paint on location, is currently sketching the outlines of the Harburg-Huus on paper. He finds inspiration for his art during long walks through the streets of his hometown. The artist, who transports his painting equipment on a motorcycle, is open to meeting at the Harburg-Huus to create more art.
Schwinge's work is not just about capturing postcard-perfect scenes. He aims to document the real Harburg, including its residents who are often overlooked. He tells of a homeless man who has become something of a local celebrity, featuring in several of his paintings. Schwinge's dedication to capturing the city's authentic spirit has not gone unnoticed. In 2022, Rainer-Maria Weiss, director of the Harburg Stadtmuseum, publicly referred to him as the 'city painter' during an event in Hamburg.
