New Hangout Spots Pop Up in Louisenstraße

Louisenstraße, a bustling street known for its vibrant urban life and community culture, is now home to a series of innovative hangout spots. The Build Your Thing project, a community-driven initiative aimed at creating visible and usable elements in public space for young people, has transformed the area with its unique and interactive installations.

Project Details

The Build Your Thing project invited local residents, artists, designers, makers, startups, community organizations, schools, and educational groups to collaborate and create physical or social projects. The project's goal was to foster creativity, local identity, social cohesion, and sustainable urban development by enabling citizens to actively participate in shaping their environment.

Realized Ideas

Four ideas were realized through the project: a spray pool, parklet-like seating with greenery, hammocks, and a water-mud playground. The spray pool, located on the former car-sharing site directly in front of the playground, is currently waiting for suitable weather conditions. The water-mud sandpit, particularly enthusiastically received at the project's opening, is part of the new hangout spots.

Another notable addition is the interactive test room, located on the forecourt of the Louisengruen at Louisenstraße 63. This space, open from August 1st to October 1st, showcases the project's collaborative spirit and innovative design. The neighboring inn, Gruber's World, provided support for the project.

Cooperating Institutions

The project was implemented in collaboration with the Office for Urban Planning and Mobility, Abenteuer Spielplatz Panama, Verkehrswende project, Kinder- und Jugendhaus Louise, Hort of the Louisenschule, Office for Urban Greenery and Waste Management, and Gruber's World. These institutions provided permissions, funding, logistical support, tools, machines, expert guidance, and promotion for the project.

If you are interested in learning more about the Build Your Thing project, including contact details or exact realized projects, I recommend reaching out to the local city council or cultural office of the city where Louisenstraße is located, as these typically handle such initiatives. Would you like help drafting an inquiry letter or suggestions on how to get involved?

The Build Your Thing project, transformed Louisenstraße, fostering a new lifestyle with its unique outdoor-living spaces, such as parklet-like seating with greenery, hammocks, and a water-mud playground, all parts of the home-and-garden themed hangout spots. The Project, a collaboration with various institutions, aimed to promote creativity, local identity, and sustainable urban development.
