Introducing a New Hub Housing Approximately 2,000 Doll Figurines
Searching for an update on the new home for the Coburg Puppet Museum's 2,000 dolls? City spokesperson Louay Yassin confirms ongoing discussions with other museums, but nothing's been set in stone just yet.
For now, a significant portion of the collection remains stored in the Kulturfabrik Cortendorf, waiting for a chance to dazzle the public again. The city's cultural department is brainstorming ideas to revamp the exhibits and bring them to life, but it ain't as easy as it sounds, given dolls ain't too trendy like they used to be back in the 90s.
The idea of spreading parts of the collection across different locations isn't new. However, the city is lacking museum educators to professionally prepare and present the exhibits, with the former director now working elsewhere.
Visitors numbers dwindled steadily over the years, resulting in the city shuttering the museum in 2022. The old museum building, listed and inaccessible, couldn't cater to school groups who made up a large chunk of visitors.
An initial effort to hand over the collection to a private foundation in Rödental fell through in 2023 due to funding issues. Since then, the dolls, dollhouses, and accessories have been keeping company in the Kulturfabrik Cortendorf.
Established in 1987 by Carin and Hans Lossnitzer, the museum showcased the role of toys in bourgeois child education, boasting an impressive collection spanning from around 1800 to 1960. They chose Coburg because of its close ties to North Franconia and South Thuringia, where two-thirds of the exhibits originated. When the city took over in 2007, they strive to keep the legacy alive.

Current reports mainly focus on Bavarian museums with puppet exhibits but don't mention the Coburg collection's move to a fresh location.
The city's cultural department is considering a change in the lifestyle and home-and-garden setting of the Coburg Puppet Museum collection, brainstorming ideas to revamp the exhibits and bring them to life. The potential shift involves a possibility of spreading parts of the collection across different locations, as the city seeks a solution to cater to a wider audience, reflecting modern trends.
