"Kaiserdom's Summer Night event commences in early August for its 14th iteration"
This August, the picturesque town of Königslutter is set to host the 14th edition of Sommernacht, a cultural festival held at the Kaiserdom. This year's event holds special significance, as it commemorates two major anniversaries: the 900th anniversary of Duke Lothar of Supplinburg's election as Roman-German King and the 20th anniversary of the SBK (Sommernacht at the Kaiserdom).
Duke Lothar of Supplinburg, who served as Roman-German Emperor from 1133 to 1137, had his Kaiserdom built in Königslutter and is buried there. This August marks the 900th anniversary of his election as king, making the Sommernacht festival an ideal opportunity to honour this significant medieval figure and milestone in German imperial history.
The SBK, an organization active in the Brunswick region since 1569, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Over two decades, the SBK has become a cultural tradition for Königslutter, bringing together music, art, and history in a unique setting—the Kaiserdom itself.
The 14th edition of Sommernacht is not just a festival; it's an expression of the SBK's mission to make culture visible, preserve history, and create spaces for encounter. The event offers a unique sensory experience, combining music, light, and atmosphere, with additional main courses provided by the dumpling workshop.
Café Kolibri takes care of coffee and waffles, while the fire department in Königslutter provides sausages. The Love Foundation from Magdeburg brings a stand for beer and lemonades, with half of the earnings going to Viva con Agua and the other half used for cultural projects. Bremer wines are also involved in the festival.
The event has partnerships with the AWO Psychiatry Center Königslutter, the city of Königslutter, the Königslutter building yard, the Königslutter fire department, and various service providers.
Admission to the Sommernacht festival is from 5:30 PM on August 8th and 9th, with the opening on August 8th at 6:15 PM. Tickets are available for 35 euros (full price) and 15 euros (reduced, for children from 5 to 12 years). For ticket pre-sale, click [specific link]. Antimo Sorgente, artistic director of the Sommernacht, invites attendees to be enchanted by artistic performances, enjoy culinary diversity, and experience the unique atmosphere as the Kaiserdom and the AWO garden are bathed in the light of the summer evening. The event is more than a festival, being a tribute to the historic site, described as one of the most impressive in the region.
The Sommernacht festival, held in the historic Kaiserdom of Königslutter, encourages outdoor-living and appreciation for home-and-garden, as attendees can immerse themselves in a unique sensory experience that includes performances, food stalls, and a picturesque setting reminiscent of a royal residence. Moreover, the event serves as a commemoration of two major anniversaries, reinforcing the connection between the past and present lifestyle of the town.
