Last Chance: Ruhr Gardens Open to the Public on September 6th and 7th, Marking Their Annual Closure
In the heart of the Ruhr region, a series of community-driven initiatives are blooming. The "Open Gardens in the Ruhr Arc" project, spearheaded by local environmental and community organisations, aims to promote sustainable urban green spaces and biodiversity as part of a broader sustainability strategy.
This project includes various municipalities, such as Arnsberg, Fröndenberg, Hemer, Iserlohn, Menden, and Neuenrade. On September 7, the Stadtlabor community garden in Alt-Arnsberg will be open to visitors, located behind the Stadtlabor freiRAUM at Neumarkt. For those attending the "Garden of Lights" event on September 6 at the historic vineyard in Arnsberg, it is recommended to park at the Altstadt garage near Neumarkt.
The Stadtlabor community garden, developed with the help of the Arnsberg Climate Group, features an insect hotel with a photovoltaic system, various habitats, and food sources for insects. It provides practical examples for ecological garden design and offers tips on creating sustainable urban green spaces.
The "Open Gardens in the Ruhr Arc" project offers more than just a chance to admire beautiful gardens. It encourages spending time in nature, visiting strangers' gardens, gaining inspiration for garden design, relaxation, and networking with other visitors and garden owners. The historic vineyard in Arnsberg, apart from the "Garden of Lights" event on September 6, can also be visited on September 7, between 11 AM and 6 PM.
This year's "Open Gardens in the Ruhr Arc" marks a significant contribution to Arnsberg's sustainability strategy and supports the implementation of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The final weekend of the event for 2025 is approaching, promising a beautiful display of gardens open for admiration.
