Hey there! Let's chat about a shake-up happening at one of Lake Constance's most enchanting spots, Mainau Island. The illustrious Countess Bettina Bernadotte, who's been holding the co-managing director post since 2007, is stepping down.

Why you ask? Well, she wants to make room for a blend of familial and external expertise in management, according to a recent announcement by Mainau GmbH. Her brother, Count Björn Bernadotte, will continue on in his role as managing director. Don't worry, the Countess assures us she'll still be connected to the Mainau through her foundation board work.

This picturesque island, nestled near Konstanz, is a family affair, having been sculpted by the Bernadotte clan for five generations. A veritable tourist magnet, it's often referred to as the "Flower Island," attracting a staggering 1 million visitors annually.

Walking its 45 hectares, you'll find yourself immersed in breathtaking park and garden landscapes,Baroque castles, palm houses, and a charismatic butterfly house. Mainau GmbH keeps this vibrant enterprise running, employing around 180 individuals year-round (including about 30 trainees), with another 200 seasonal workers hopping on board each year. The Lennart Bernadotte Foundation is their loyal, non-profit shareholder.

As for who'll take the reins from the Countess, that's yet to be announced. The search is on, according to a spokesperson, so stay tuned for more updates on this beautiful tourist hotspot!

The upcoming change in leadership at Mainau Island's management is not only a family matter but also involves seeking external expertise, as per the community policy announced by Mainau GmbH. As the Countess steps down, the lifestyle she has cultivated on the island, including its home-and-garden richness, will continue to thrive under the continued employment of a dedicated staff of around 380 individuals.
