Major urban renovation milestone in Delitzsch: Reopening of Elberitzbad
In the heart of Saxony, the historic town of Delitzsch has unveiled its revamped gem: the Elberitz Bath (Elberitzbad). After a 13-year construction period, this extensive renovation has transformed the beloved public swimming facility into a modern, user-friendly, and sustainable leisure park.
The scope of the project was ambitious, aiming to modernise the pool facilities, improve changing rooms, update sanitary facilities, and install modern technical installations for better water treatment and energy saving. The renovation also included enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities, adding new wellness and recreation areas, and implementing eco-friendly measures such as solar panels and the use of rainwater for garden irrigation.
The total investment for this extensive modernization amounted to approximately 12 million euros, making it the largest public construction project in Delitzsch's history. Funding came from a combination of municipal budgets, state subsidies, and federal support for infrastructure improvements.
State Secretary Barbara Meyer (63) expressed her excitement, stating that the Elberitz Bath is more than just water and walls; it's a place for movement, encounter, and education. Beyond serving as a recreational hub, the modernized Elberitz Bath is expected to boost local tourism, improve quality of life, and serve as a landmark for Delitzsch’s commitment to sustainable and user-friendly public amenities.
One of the key features of the modernized Elberitz Bath is the main pool, which boasts five 25-meter lanes. The existing outdoor pool has also been renovated. For the younger swimmers, a wading pool has been added to the children's pool.
As the Elberitz Bath continues to serve the community, it is making an important contribution for future generations, especially considering the increasing number of non-swimmers. The Elberitz Bath's long history, with an outdoor pool existing at this location around 1930, is a testament to its enduring appeal and significance in Delitzsch.
The revamped Elberitz Bath, now a modern leisure park, extends its amenities to include outdoor-living spaces, integrating home-and-garden areas with solar panels and rainwater irrigation systems, thus promoting a sustainable lifestyle. This extensive renovation, besides the pool facilities and wellness areas, also focuses on making the park accessible for all, ensuring a welcoming environment for everyone.
