Returning and reshaping, the art exhibition 'Matter and Shape' makes its comeback for round two in the city of lights, Paris.

"Matter and Shape reemerges in Paris for its follow-up event, featuring a mobile exhibition space"

In the heart of Paris, France, the second edition of Matter and Shape is underway, attracting a diverse array of exhibitors from around the globe. This year, the event is celebrating the centenary of the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, the Paris Exposition that gave birth to the Art Deco movement.

One of the newcomers to this year's salon is Fassen, a French design brand founded last year. They are presenting a cubical armchair originally designed by couturier Paul Poiret, reimagined in an eye-pleasing combination of coral and green.

Another long-standing exhibitor is Lobmeyr, a 200-year-old Viennese crystal glassware house. They have re-edited several pieces from the 1925 Paris exposition, including a super-fine "muslin" glass spherical candy dish on a stem.

Saridis, a Greek company established in 1867, is showcasing furniture from the "Klismos" collection designed in 1958-1961, handcrafted in the same Greek walnut and leather as six decades ago.

Sanayi313, a multidisciplinary practice from Istanbul, is celebrating its 10th anniversary and the first anniversary of its furniture collection at the salon. Enis Karavil, one of the founders, expresses his satisfaction with being at the salon, stating that it is a great chance for Sanayi313 to explain themselves and showcase their craftsmanship in Paris. This year, they are introducing a folding screen, a floor lamp, and more affordable pieces such as stackable trays at the salon's onsite shop.

Daisuke Yamamoto's three-year-old studio is presenting steel panels from demolition sites turned into futuristic seating and Charlotte Perriand-inspired shelving at the salon.

Vitra, a 75-year-old heavy hitter, has unveiled a collaboration with young Swiss-French designer Julie Richoz at the salon, recontextualising two classic Prouvé chairs with Dedar fabrics.

Willo Perron, a Canadian designer, designed the pavilion for Matter and Shape this year. He also debuted his first foray into furniture with No-Ga at the fair.

A pop-up restaurant by WE ARE ONA with London-based chef Imogen Kwok combines performance art and gastronomy at the salon.

The jewellery showcase curated by two former Monaco gallerists, Joya, features Italy's Gioielleria Pennisi, Japan's Shihara, and German designer Gabrielle Greiss.

For this year, Matter and Shape hopes to double the number of guests from the previous year, with around twice the number of exhibitors compared to last year, showing some 60 exhibitors. The space for Matter and Shape has grown from 3,000 to 5,000 m2, spanning two pavilions.

In its inaugural year in 2024, Matter and Shape welcomed over 8,000 guests in four days. With its diverse offerings and growing popularity, Matter and Shape 2023 promises to be an exciting event for design enthusiasts.
