Metropolitan Museum Relocates Katz's Delicatessen, Establishing a New Dining Venue Inside the Institution
This summer, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is treating its visitors to a gastronomic adventure inspired by the new Michael C. Rockefeller Wing. The Met Dining Room, a staple within the museum, has unveiled a unique and specially curated menu that debuted in early July 2025, reflecting a fusion of flavors and dishes that complement the artistic and cultural themes showcased in the new wing [1].
While the specific dishes on this menu remain a tantalizing mystery, the emphasis is clearly on a dining experience that honors the cultural inspirations of the Michael C. Rockefeller collection. Visitors can expect a creative, elevated dining experience designed to enrich their overall museum visit.
Meanwhile, outside the realm of culinary delights, the Met Museum is not the only entity making headlines. Sakhi for South Asian Women, a non-profit organisation, has launched a new initiative called the Food Justice Program. This unique initiative is specifically designed to provide resources and support to survivors of gender-based violence [2].
The Food Justice Program is a component of Sakhi for South Asian Women's broader efforts to address gender-based violence, focusing on addressing food insecurity among survivors of such violence [3]. The program is not related to any pop-ups or food service at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Elsewhere at the museum, the Cantor Roof Garden Bar has undergone a revamp. The bar now offers bottled classic cocktails, such as Manhattan, Cosmopolitan, Gin Martini, and Negroni [4]. In addition, the bar is hosting an Amari experience that accompanies live music on Friday and Saturday nights [5].
For those craving traditional New York deli fare, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will host a pop-up of Katz's Delicatessen starting on Friday, August 2. The pop-up will serve hand-carved deli sandwiches, including pastrami and turkey, with potato salad, coleslaw, and pickles [6]. The pop-up will be located in the museum's cafeteria and will run from 11:30 a.m., Thursdays through Mondays, until the end of the summer.
Lastly, Chef John Fraser has offered a rotating tasting menu at The Dining Room, focusing on one specific piece of produce per season [7]. The revamped dining room at the museum, brought in by Chef Fraser, promises to be a culinary destination worth visiting.
Whether you're a food enthusiast or a museum lover, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has something for everyone this summer. For more information about the latest updates on the museum's culinary offerings, it is recommended to check with the museum's dining services directly.
