Mo Seifeldein Challenges Rep. Don Beyer in VA-08

Mohamed 'Mo' Seifeldein has announced his candidacy for Virginia's 8th Congressional District, challenging incumbent Rep. Don Beyer. Seifeldein, a former Alexandria City Council member, is running as a Democrat and has a clear vision for the district.

Seifeldein, who served on the Alexandria City Council from 2019 to 2021, is the first Sudanese American to hold the position. He is now running on a platform that includes universal healthcare, housing justice, workers' rights, food safety, and immigration reform. During his council tenure, he sponsored Virginia's first independent Community Police Review Board and established the 8 Corps program.

Seifeldein briefly considered running for Alexandria mayor in 2021 but decided against it. Instead, he has focused on his congressional campaign, joining Frank Ferreira in challenging Beyer. His policy priorities include affordability, access to healthcare, paid family leave, and ending endless conflicts. The 8th District is rated as safely Democratic, making the Democratic primary the determining contest.

Seifeldein resigned from his role as a federal attorney at the U.S. Department of Labor in protest of Trump administration policies, demonstrating his commitment to his principles. He will now challenge Beyer, who won his last race in 2024 with 71.5% of the vote and serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. Seifeldein's 'Go With Mo' campaign focuses on progressive policies and aims to give the 8th District a voice for change.
