Over 1200 shadowy spots in Almaty set to receive lighting improvements.

Check it out: By 2025, Almaty's city lights are set to shine on almost 1,200 once-dark spots! That's nearly a 10-fold increase from last year, according to Igor Mysyk, head honcho of "Almaty City Light." Almaty Mayor Yerbolat Dosaev spearheaded this ambitious three-phase mission, mind you. The initial phase aimed to revamp the existing lighting system, and things are looking bright as we're almost there! With 45,000 outdated light fixtures swapped out, 3,000 shiny new poles up, and around 500 kilometers of cable now in place, Almaty City Light is rocking things!

Beyond 2024, the second phase kicks off with the elimination of 1,200 dimly lit streets. But the fun doesn't stop there - the third phase brings the revolution, with the automation of the city's lighting control system on the horizon. By 2025, 320 outdated control cabinets have already been replaced, and plans are in motion to upgrade 70% of the remaining 1,100 by year's end.

You might be wondering what happened to the consortium of private partners who initially took on the public-private partnership project. Well, they dropped the ball, big-time. So, in the summer of 2023, the city's mayor, Yerbolat Dosaev, canned their contract and, as a result, all networks were handed over to the local district authorities. Today, everything's humming along just fine, as these networks now fall under contracts with the city's very own Almaty City Light.

You heard it here first, folks! Almaty is taking major steps towards complete street illumination by the end of 2025, baby! And ain't that something to write home about? 💡🌃🌍🌟
