In the picturesque region surrounding the Geschriebenstein Nature Park in Burgenland, Austria, a unique collaboration between the nature park and the VAMOS Association is creating a stir. This initiative, named "Blue David receives green Goliath," combines regionality, inclusion, and sustainability to produce handmade apricot jam.

The apricot jam project is a testament to the ecological diversity and near-natural farming practices found in the region. The fruits used in the jam are sourced directly from the Geschriebenstein Nature Park, supporting traditional orchards and encouraging biodiversity. This collaboration not only strengthens the regional economy but also promotes eco-friendly practices.

The VAMOS Association, dedicated to promoting lived normality in the world of work, offers the apricot jam production as an activity for its clients in a collegial atmosphere. The production process, a blend of craftsmanship and social responsibility, is carried out by people with special needs.

The initiative aims to increase regional value creation and promote a sustainable cycle. The limited quantity of the apricot jam ensures that it remains a prized product, while the focus on sustainable harvesting minimizes the environmental impact on natural habitats.

Engelbert Kenyeri from the nature park and René Höfer from VAMOS are at the forefront of this initiative. They have intensified their cooperation to combat invasive species such as vinegar tree and ragweed, and to promote the diversity and care of the cultural landscape in the Geschriebenstein Nature Park.

The apricot jam is available for purchase at VAMOS in Markt Allhau (Gemeindestraße 35) and at the Naturpark Office in Rechnitz (Hauptplatz 10). This collaboration between the Geschriebenstein Nature Park and the VAMOS Association serves as a model of how regional natural parks in Austria can integrate environmental stewardship with community-based economic initiatives.
