Proposal for Animal and Environmental Safeguards Solicited by the Commission
The Moers petting zoo, a popular extra-curricular learning location, is undergoing a significant renovation with an anticipated completion date in spring 2027.
In an effort to provide a more immersive and educational experience, the new petting zoo will feature a walk-through enclosure, a green classroom, and a biogarden showcasing rare vegetable varieties.
During the renovation period, the department of open space and environmental planning, along with the support association for the petting zoo, will maintain close contact with the farmers and animals to ensure their wellbeing. Two farmers have kindly agreed to take in the animals from the petting zoo, with the familiar stables of the petting zoo being rebuilt at the temporary accommodations.
The total costs of the renovation are estimated to be around 3.4 million euros, with 80 percent of these costs being covered by federal and state urban development funding. Regrettably, pigs will not be included in the renovated petting zoo due to cost considerations.
However, there is good news for animal lovers! The new petting zoo will boast a wider variety of animals than before, including alpacas, sheep, goats, rabbits, budgerigars, chickens, and guinea pigs.
For those interested in staying updated on the progress of the Moers petting zoo renovation, it is recommended to check the official Moers city website or local news outlets for announcements on reopening dates, animal arrivals, and new features post-renovation. The Moers petting zoo team can also be followed on Instagram, although it's important to note that this is an advertisement.
Lastly, it's worth mentioning that the construction road for the renovation will run through the neighboring new housing estate via Dr. Karl Hirschberg Street. The animals will be moved to temporary accommodations from mid-August, with the renovation set to begin at the end of the summer holidays. The first educational offers in the new building are expected to start in summer 2027.
In the renovated Moers petting zoo, visitors can expect a unique blend of home-and-garden and lifestyle education, with the addition of a walk-through enclosure and a green classroom. The pet-focused aspect of this immersive learning location will include a variety of animals, such as alpacas, sheep, goats, rabbits, budgerigars, chickens, and guinea pigs, providing an enjoyable experience for both children and pet enthusiasts.
