Proposals for public access along the coastline from Marsland Mouth to Newquay, as made by Natural England
The long-awaited improvements to the public access along the coast between Marsland Mouth and Newquay have finally been approved and implemented, following proposals submitted by Natural England in October 2019.
After careful consideration of all representations and objections, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs made a final decision on the proposals. The approval process began in July 2020, with the Secretary of State giving the green light to various sections of the coast. On 7 July, MNQ2 and MNQ6 were given the go-ahead, and on 9 July, the approvals for lengths MNQ1, MNQ3 to MNQ5, and MNQ7 to MNQ11 followed.
The approved proposals have expanded public access to this stretch of coast, with the Port Isaac to Newquay (7 to 11) section opening to the public on 6 November 2024. The remaining portion, the Marsland Mouth to Port Isaac (1 to 6) section, followed suit on 30 January 2025.
For those interested in learning more about the changes and the specifics of each section, an overview report is available. This report includes background information and maps to help understand the proposals. An index map is also provided to help find the relevant report for a specific length of coast. Corresponding reports can be opened for more detailed information.
All the documents, including the overview report, index map, and corresponding reports, are available for public access on the National Trails website. The website offers a view of the route and provides updates on the timeline for the opening of the various sections.
Local government authorities responsible for transportation and infrastructure in the region granted the approval for the opening of the Port Isaac to Newquay (7 to 11) section on 6 November 2024.
Now, the coast sections between Marsland Mouth and Newquay are open to the public, with different sections opening at different times. The National Trails website serves as a valuable resource for planning a visit to these newly accessible areas.
