Reconfigure Siberia's Vostok Airport for pedestrians in celebration of the city's 400th anniversary.
Hey there! In the Siberian city of Krasnoysark, they're planning to create a pedestrian-friendly zone, dubbed the "Takeoff for Pedestrians". The city's authorities have announced a contest for the design of this pedestrian infrastructure in a chaotic part of the city that has been under construction since the 1990s.
However, this initiative won't cover the entire vast territory. The City Architecture Department has partnered with the "City for Pedestrians" Foundation for Urban Improvement and Pedestrian Infrastructure to host an open design contest for the architectural-urban development concept for the "Takeoff for Pedestrians" area, stretching from Shahteров Street to Tatischev Park.
The organizers of this contest are the Siberian Federal University and the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Union of Architects of Russia. Applications began today, May 6th, and will run for 1.5 months. You can check out the details on the foundation's website.
As noted by Krasnoyarsk's chief architect, Yulia Solovarova, more and more residents are opting for walking, which is why they've chosen the Takeoff zone—an actively developing area with weak pedestrian connections—for this competition.
After the competition, 10 teams made up of various specialists—from architects to landscape experts—will be selected for the final round. The contest itself will take place from June 19th to 21st. For three days, teams will work on their designs, and the grand prize will be the opportunity to bring their idea to life before Krasnoyarsk celebrates its 400th anniversary. The top three teams will also receive monetary awards.
