Restoration work on the external walls of the Baranic house, constructed in the 1910s, is taking place in Krasnodar.
Barannik House Restoration: A Collaborative Effort to Preserve Russian Architectural Heritage
The Barannik House in Krasnodar, a striking example of modern architecture from the early 1900s, is set to undergo restoration as part of a joint project between Avito Services and the Tom Sawyer Fest Heritage Charitable Foundation. This project aims to restore historical buildings in 11 cities across Russia, including Krasnodar [1].
The restoration of the Barannik House is a significant part of this initiative, with professionals and volunteers working together to preserve architectural heritage and improve urban environments. The project includes work on foundations, roofs, windows, drainage systems, and other structural elements essential for the cultural and historical preservation of buildings like the Barannik House.
In Krasnodar, specialists from Avito Services and festival activists will begin the restoration work on the historic Barannik House. The project covers significant architectural objects in Krasnodar, as well as cities such as Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Tver, Kaluga, Chelyabinsk, Tobolsk, Klyukvy (Kaluga region), Totma (Vologda region), and the village of Ipatovo (Republic of Komi) [1].
Anastasia Knoer, director of the "Tom Sawyer Fest" charity foundation, expressed her joy at participating in the restoration of Russia's historical heritage and preserving architectural monuments like the Barannik House. Volunteers of "Tom Sawyer Fest" have already restored the old entrance door of the Barannik House in Krasnodar. The restoration process involved removing layers of paint, cleaning the surface, repairing loose fastenings, replacing damaged wood sections, recreating lost decoration, and installing edge locks over 100 years old.
The unique cast-ornament of the Barannik House, a traditional Kuban overhang, was saved by volunteers in 2024 before the demolition of a dilapidated residential building on Gogol Street. The cast-iron canopy from the late 19th to early 20th centuries will be cleaned using a laser, straightened, and reinstalled on the Barannik House, harmoniously complementing the historical facade and blending with the balcony railing and door frame.
Svetlana Filimonova, the head of the 'Large Repairs and Construction' business direction on Avito Services, has expressed support for projects like "Tom Sawyer Fest" and Avito Services' readiness to invest in preserving architectural heritage. Many talented people have responded to the call to help restore cultural heritage through the Avito platform.
Unfortunately, a residential house over 120 years old on Ordzhonikidze Street, 23 in Krasnodar, has been demolished to make way for a new building. However, the restoration of the Barannik House and other historical buildings across Russia through this joint project offers hope for the preservation of architectural heritage and the revitalization of urban environments.
Anyone interested in offering their help as an activist or master can do so on the project page. This collaborative effort is not just about restoring the urban environment, but also about how everyone can make cities better together, as Svetlana Filimonova believes [2].

Volunteers and professionals are working together to revitalize the Barannik House, a significant architectural monument in Krasnodar, as part of a joint project, improving both the home-and-garden aesthetic and the cultural heritage of the city. This comprehensive restoration process includes revamping structural elements such as foundations, roofs, windows, and drainage systems.
The home-and-garden restoration of the Barannik House is just one aspect of a larger initiative by Avito Services and the Tom Sawyer Fest Heritage Charitable Foundation, who aim to restore historical buildings in 11 Russian cities to preserve their architectural heritage and enrich urban landscapes.
