Breaking the Silence on Violence Against Women

Lahnstein. it's all about rising up against injustice this February 14. "One Billion Rising" (OBR), a global platform, takes a stand against the widespread violence inflicted upon women and girls. Each year, simultaneous actions, performances, and gatherings are organized worldwide to shed light on this pressing issue and show support for the victims.

The name "One Billion Rising" carries the grim statistic that roughly one billion women and girls across the globe become victims of violence in their lifetime. This movement demands justice, equality, and a world free from violence against women in all its forms.

With the theme "Rise for Empathy", participate in the dance, conversation, and activism at the Löhrrondell in Koblenz from 5 PM on February 14, 2025. Post-event, at 7 PM, the display "What I Was Wearing" opens at Kornpfortstraße 15, featuring survivors' clothing to challenge stereotypical biases and victim-blaming narratives.

Gearing Up for the Rise

Before the big day, Lahnstein Youth Culture Centre (JUKZ) hosts a dance workshop on February 8, 2025, from 3 PM to 5 PM. No prior experience is necessary, and interested individuals can register by calling 02621 914-602 or emailing [email protected].

Joining forces with OBR is the virtual charity run "Sports Against Violence", starting February 14 and ending on March 8, International Women's Day. Patronized this year by the Landrat of the Rhein-Lahn district, Jörg Denninghoff, the run further strengthens the "No to Violence" statement by supporting the Koblenz women's shelter.

The registration fee of 15 euros goes directly to the Koblenz women's shelter, aiding important initiatives such as provisions for new residents, celebrations for the children, and small outings designed to uplift traumatized women and their children. You can take part by running, walking, hiking, cycling, or swimming; recording your kilometers on a smartphone or sports watch, and submitting your results electronically.

Whether you join the dance in Koblenz or participate in the charity run, every action contributes to sending a powerful message against violence and aiding survivors in their journey.
