Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Project Unveils First Island Golf Course, Shura Links
Saudi Arabia's Red Sea project has unveiled its first golf course, Shura Links, an island course combining desert landscapes with maintained fairways and efficient water management. The course is part of the country's Vision 2030 programme, aiming to diversify its economy away from oil revenues. The island, accessed by the kingdom's longest internal bridge or by boat, is set to welcome its first guests in the coming weeks.
Shura Links, Saudi Arabia's first island golf course, is a testament to the country's ambitious Red Sea project. Led by John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, the project aims to complete extensive resorts, hotels, and residential units by 2030. The initial phase includes SLS Red Sea with 150 rooms and villas, The Red Sea Edition offering 240 rooms, and InterContinental The Red Sea Resort providing 178 rooms.
The entire development is powered by renewable energy, with engineering designed to minimise environmental impact. Qatar Airways has announced direct connections from London Heathrow to The Red Sea International Airport, set to commence at the end of October. The island is part of an 11-resort development designed by Foster + Partners, featuring a 'Coral Bloom' concept.
The opening of Shura Links golf course and the initial hotels on Shura Island mark significant milestones in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea project. The development, part of the country's Vision 2030 programme, is set to transform the kingdom's tourism landscape, offering luxury resorts powered by renewable energy and connected by international flights.
