Second Sustainability Conference in Hamburg

Sustainability Shindig in Hamburg Kicks Off: A Melting Pot of Brains from Over 100 Countries

Monday marked the beginning of the second iteration of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference. Over 1600 attendees from 110 countries are expected to attend, with the aim of pushing forward the implementation of the 17 Global Sustainability Goals set by the United Nations. This international event is co-hosted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United Nations Development Programme, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, and the Michael Otto Foundation.

German Development Minister Reem Alabali-Radovan (SPD) opened the conference at ten o'clock Monday morning. Tuesday is set to see a speech from Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD). The conference concludes on Tuesday.

This annual event doubles as the kickoff for the Hamburg Sustainability Week, taking place from June 1st to the 6th across the city. With the motto "6 Days, 100 Events, One Idea: We're Making Tomorrow. And jointly," civic initiatives, institutions, and local residents are invited to participate in workshops, talks, and actions centered around sustainability. Featured events include a solar-powered boat tour promoting green energy, as well as a speed-dating session for ten Hamburgers dedicated to driving sustainability forward in the city.

The goal of the week is to strengthen local sustainability efforts and develop innovative approaches to meeting the UN's Sustainability Goals.

Childfire Chronicles

You might remember Lili Lütje, born in 2003, who accidentally burned down her grandmother's kitchen as a child. However, she fondly recalls her time as a child reporter, which led her to study Digital Media with a minor in Wirtschaftspsychologie in Hamburg and Lüneburg. Her knack for marketing shines in her role managing medical social media channels. Outside the digital sphere, Lili enjoys crafting DIY projects. When it comes to doling out good advice, she never disappoints, as evidenced by her stint as an expert columnist for the "Eltern"-Magazine. Lili's alias is "Lit" in our publication.
