Fresno, California - Storyland, a beloved local destination for families, is set to undergo a significant revitalization, thanks to a grant of $1 million from Measure P's youth development category. The funding will focus on renovations and accessibility upgrades, ensuring that this 63-year-old park continues to inspire imagination and play for future generations.

The upgrades include the installation of ADA-compliant restroom stalls and the addition of railings for the two bathroom facilities, making Storyland more accessible to visitors with disabilities and improving overall visitor experience.

Fresno City Councilmember Tyler Maxwell, who had childhood experiences at Storyland, highlighted the importance of the park, stating, "Storyland is 'their Disneyland' for many children in the community." He announced the grant, emphasizing its significance in supporting an affordable, local destination for families who might not otherwise be able to visit larger theme parks.

Built in 1962, Storyland remains dedicated to its original mission of literature, themed around Mother Goose. The park operates a sister park called Playland, which is currently undergoing state inspections. If approved, Playland is expected to reopen with a soft launch in August.

Admission to Storyland is $8 per child, making it an affordable option for families. The park draws approximately 1,500 visitors each month and hosts around 3,000 schoolchildren annually for field trips. Executive Director Cindy Lee emphasized that Storyland's literary focus will remain unchanged, preserving its whimsical charm while ensuring it remains accessible to all visitors.

With these upgrades, Storyland is poised to continue its role as a cherished part of the Fresno community, providing a magical and inclusive environment for children to explore and learn through the power of storytelling.

The revitalization of Storyland, a home-and-garden for the imagination and play, will extend beyond accessibility upgrades, as it aims to preserve and enhance its lifestyle appeal for visitors. With ADA-compliant facilities and improved overall visitor experience, Storyland continues to be an affordable and cherished local destination for families.
