The Manipulaters: Pakistan Cybercrime Group Thrives Despite Exposure
Pakistan-based cybercrime group, The Manipulaters, remain active despite attempts to expose their activities. They are currently developing HeartSender, a spam and email-to-SMS service, and have pleaded to remove stories about their past actions.
The Manipulaters, led by Saim Raza, have been operating since 2013, peddling spamming and phishing services under various aliases like Fudtools, Fudpage, Fudsender, and FudCo. They secretly managed these brands through a front company, We Code Solutions. In 2019, they lost control of their core domain due to non-renewal, which was then acquired by Scylla Intel. Despite this setback, they have improved their products but continue to leave traces of their illegal activities.
In January 2024, the group pleaded with KrebsOnSecurity to unpublish stories about their activities. Raza, using the email address [email protected], claimed to have left the cybercrime business and wanted a 2021 story removed. However, recent reports suggest that Raza has been released from jail and is seeking 'new work'. The current residence of Raza remains unknown.
A recent report from DomainTools.com revealed that several computers associated with The Manipulaters were hacked by malware, compromising user data. The HeartSender spam delivery service, their core product, leaks vast amounts of user information, including credentials and support requests.
The Manipulaters, despite setbacks and exposure, continue to operate and improve their services. Their leader, Saim Raza, remains at large, and their activities pose a significant threat to users' data and security. Further investigation and action are needed to dismantle this cybercrime group.
