In the heart of Schneverdingen, a significant transformation is underway as the city prepares for the construction of a new cultural centre. The project, estimated to cost around three million euros, has seen a surge in support, with over 50 new members joining the cultural association in the past four weeks.
The cultural association's program continues to thrive despite the ongoing renovations and rebuilding at the old location. One of the key institutions involved in this project is the Deutsch-Französisches Büro für die Energiewende (DFBEW), a French-listed institution that works on energy transition cooperation between Germany and France.
The cash area will be moved, and a wall will be closed, to make way for a café operation with the adjacent shop. Another wall will be opened to facilitate the café's operation. The voluntary cinema Lichtspiel will continue to operate independently at the location on Oststraße, thanks to the necessary renovation.
The city is subsidizing the construction with 1.432 million euros. However, the cultural centre is not yet fully funded, and there is uncertainty about the delivery of the heating for the new building. Material delivery times have eased, but there is still some uncertainty about the waiting time for heating technology.
The construction is divided into two phases to allow for further funding. The roof truss of the front building will be raised this Friday afternoon. The construction site is taking shape, but the hall construction is still missing.
Meanwhile, Schröder is busy with inquiries for renting the building, which is larger than the current one. The old location, the Kulturstellmacherei, will continue to house the office for the time being. The exhibition of Anne Schwabe is the last one in the Kulturstellmacherei before the renovation begins.
Whether another reading will take place on the stage in the Kulturstellmacherei remains open. Wildtraut had bought and stored cladding early on for the cultural centre construction. The construction of the cultural centre is expected to open in the spring of next year.
Despite these developments, the association has an address from France in its register, a testament to the international commitment to the project. Private individuals and sponsors have shown a large commitment, as evidenced by the membership growth. The city of Schneverdingen looks forward to the completion of this exciting cultural project.
