Transformed Childhood Bedroom into a Fashionable Guest Room through Innovative Redesign
Melissa Inman, a homeowner in an unspecified location, sought to revamp her daughter's empty teenage bedroom into a sophisticated guest room. After her daughter departed for college, she found the room cluttered and depressing. With her husband's assistance and some DIY ideas, Inman embarked on the transformation.
The Pink Pursuit
Inspired by artwork from graphic designer Jade Purple Brown, Inman decided to paint the room a vibrant shade of pastel pink. This color choice was unexpected, as her household generally revolves around blues, whites, and creams. Initially hesitant about the predominant peachy pink hue, she found that incorporating warm tones and textured items, such as a neutral runner at the foot of the bed, brown accents, and a wooden nightstand, helped to soften the space and diminish its overwhelming presence.
A Focal Feature Wall
One aspect Inman wanted to preserve from her daughter's room was the DIY honeycomb wall made from wood pieces attached to the wall. The wall previously showcased a collection of colors including blue, green, yellow, and purple. Instead of removing these colorful pieces, Inman opted to paint the wall a neutral white to maintain balance with the other pink walls. To keep the surrounding decor simple, she added a wooden bench with pillows and an indoor tree for a touch of fresh greenery.
Old Meets New

Inman borrowed a blend of old and new decor items to fill the room. For instance, she combined a new bouclé headboard with vintage marquee letters that spell "snooze," which she sourced from Facebook Marketplace and salvage stores. These letters were given a coat of paint, and contact paper was attached to the back to conceal any existing holes and wiring.
In addition to these marquee letters, Inman updated an old dresser to suit the revamped guest room. The dresser originally boasted bird-patterned wallpaper, which Inman replaced with pole wrap, covering the drawer fronts in creamy white and replacing the drawer pulls. In an effort to emulate the look of marble without the hefty price tag, she topped the dresser with a faux marble top created from MDF board and self-adhesive paper.
Finally, Inman accessorized the room with a new duvet, lamp, runner rug, and curtains, as well as artworks from her favorite artists and personal items like books, plants, and a vintage camera. These thoughtful details give the room a sense of belonging to its owners, even with the show-stopping pink color scheme.
Inman acknowledges that the room still maintains a significantly different vibe from the rest of her home but considers it a fun and unique addition to her living space.
